Practicing today was especially hard because I have completely lost my stamina. I have my wisdom teeth pulled 2 weeks ago and this is the first day of intense practice following surgery. The music is there however I am physically unable to do many of the things I want/need to do. I was extremely tired after 2 hours of practice and had to stop. I am trying to get myself back into playing shape! JUST STOP BITING GREG!
Gregory, I appreciate the videos and posts here, please keep them coming. I am literally 3 days into learning the clarinet and your videos are the only ones that aren't driving me insane. All the other videos have irritating people in them, people who swallow much too loudly and make me cringe with the way they move their mouth when they talk. You're the only "normal" guy who can shred on the clarinet. I'm the vocalist/pianist in a progressive metal band, our guitarist plays alto sax and I've been inspired to play a woodwind. I actually come from a jazz/lounge/classical/Arabic background and hearing your clarinet improvisations convinced me completely that I must master this instrument. The clarinet is incredible, your videos have been a huge help from day one (yeah, it may only be day 3 for me, but it does mean something). I just finished working through the exercises laid out in your first video, the 7 finger exercises, chromatic scales from A to the lower Eb. It may be a small step, but it feels great to get through it without squeaking!
ReplyDeleteJust as a quick idea, you could create a whole series of videos bringing the beginner to an advanced stage, teaching all sorts of stuff you know now. Your videos are the only ones on Youtube that did any good for me, thanks a ton for the help!
I agree with the precedent post. More materials for the beginning clarinetist !
ReplyDeleteMy best regards.
